Self Directed Support

Eileen McHenry has been in touch to ask that the following information is shared with the Edinburgh Local Practitioner Forum:

Dear colleagues,

We have been employed by ADSW and funded by Scottish Government to develop specific support to Local Authorities across Scotland to help implement the requirements of the Self Directed Support Act which, as you will be aware, is coming into force in April 2014. The task will involve developing practitioner guidance as well as national standard training modules for professional staff across health and social care who have a key role within the Self Directed Support process.

ADSW and the Scottish Government are keen to ensure that our work is informed by staff on the ground, their operational managers, and organisational support staff. We are sensitive to the different approaches taken across Scotland and their stage of progress. We recognise the value of reflecting views and suggestions so that we can produce guidance and training that will be of practical use and allow staff to adapt to the new legislation with confidence and ease.

We would welcome your views individually or collectively on what you would find helpful in relation to practitioner guidance and training? This can be generally or specifically in relation to SDS. For example, length, content, format, use of technology / gadgets, use of practice suggestions, and use of case studies…. What challenges have you had or anticipate in relation to SDS? What was or would be helpful in getting past these challenges? What are your thoughts about the timing and type of training modules? Anything else..?

Our contact details are:

* June Findlater  – Project Manager – SDS june.findlater@adsw.org.uk .
* Eileen McHenry – Development Officer – SDS eileen.mchenry@adsw.org.uk
* Shona MacGregor – Development Officer -SDS  shona.macgregor@adsw.org.uk.

Please contact us directly with your thoughts, ideas, and any suggestions. We see the practitioner voice as central to this task and would be delighted to hear from you. Thank you in advance for your support.

Warm regards

June, Eileen and Shona.
