Local Event for Front Line Staff – Meet the Minister and the Chief Social Work Advisor to the Government (7 August 2014)

The Office of The Chief Social Work Adviser (OCSWA) in Scottish Government is setting up a regional event in Edinburgh for the Minister for Children and Young People and the Chief Social Work Adviser to engage directly with front line social service workers. This is one of a series of 6 such Ministerial events across Scotland.

The purpose of these events is to start establishing more direct engagement between Scottish Government, in particular OCSWA, and front line workers from across the diverse spectrum of social services which should help:

• inform and shape a broader programme of activity being undertaken by OCSWA in 2014-2015 to strengthen the role of social services
• to better demonstrate the sector’s significant contribution to delivering a wide range of national outcomes
• to support the sector through a significant change agenda (integration, SDS, Children’s Services Bill)

It is an opportunity for Ministers to hear first-hand the views and experiences of front line workers at a time of significant change in the sector, to hear about achievements and what works well as well as challenges and concerns. It is an opportunity for front line workers to engage with Ministers on issues of interest to them. It is also the start of a project by OCSWA to ensure that we have sustainable, effective and on-going communication with front line practitioners. The event also contains an hour slot (at the end) from Social Work Scotland who will discuss training issues related to the SDS legislative requirements.

There are 25 places available to front line practitioners from the City of Edinburgh. Please register your interest with Clancy Phimister Clancy.Phimister@edinburgh.gov.uk as soon as possible. it would be excellent to have a diverse and representative range of social workers present at this event.
