IRISS – The View From Here

IRISS is trying to understand practitioners’ experiences of delivering care and support in Scotland. Part of this project will be to undertake a survey in partnership with the Guardian to reach a broad audience across Scotland.

However, we are aware that this survey is unlikely to reach the entire workforce – particularly those who work most closely with people who access support. That said, we are taking a slightly different approach to engage with this particular group.

We would like you to help us identify two practitioners from your organisation to undertake a more in-depth look at their day-to-day experiences of supporting people and their views on a variety of topics. The proposal is for them to record their experiences (using a ‘cultural probe’ or ‘diary method’) over one week in a more qualitative way using creative methods.

Your Practitioner Forum Needs YOU!

Hi everyone

We had a really interesting morning at the ELPF today. All the presentations are available on the website already if you want to have a look at them but I can say that none of them are as meaningful as they are when you see them being delivered by the person who wrote them and have the opportunity to get involved in discussion with fellow practitioners.

The SSSC Challenge – The social work degree in the 21st century

The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) Challenge opens at 7am on Friday 18 July 2014 and will be open for approximately three weeks. This is your opportunity to contribute ideas about how the social work degree can best deliver social workers who are fit for practice in the 21st century and become lifelong learners.

Minute of meeting and PPT presentations

Hi

I’ve uploaded the presentations given to the ELPF on 10 February 2014 as well as a brief minute of the meeting held on the same day. They can be viewed here: https://elpfonline.org.uk/elpf-online-library/previous-meetings-minutes-and-agendas/ and here: https://elpfonline.org.uk/elpf-online-library/elpf-presentations/

Today’s meeting

Many thanks to those of you who attended this morning, though it was poorer than usual so please spread the word! I will get a minute of the meeting put together and will post it along with all the useful information – presentations and contact details – in the forseeable future.

I was particularly taken by Dr Anna Williams’ presentation on MS and the ease with which she made her (groundbreaking) research accessible and understandable to us all. Continue reading ‘Today’s meeting’

28.08.2013

Minutes of the August ELPF meeting can be found here: ELPF Minute 28.08.2013 (kindly provided by Aisling Downey) or on the Minutes and Agendas page.

Change is in the air at the ELPF

I’m sorry to announce that Tamara Gill has decided to step down as a co-chair of the ELPF. Tamara has been involved with the ELPF since its inception and was the last ‘original’ chair. That said, with change comes opportunity so here is yours – we want you to get involved! David Carter (Children & Families Social Worker) has volunteered to co-chair (Welcome David!) so we now have representation from Criminal Justice, Community Care and Children & Families Social Work. We are always looking for support and if you could spare a few hours PER YEAR to make a contribution, be that taking a minute of a meeting or organising a meeting, we would love to hear from you. You can contact us on @ELPFonline, via Contact Us on this site or localpractitionerforum@edinburgh.gov.uk. The ELPF can only exist whilst practitioners are actively involved. We would particularly like some ongoing representation from workers in the voluntary sector.

Hoping to hear from you!

The Internet, Social Media and ‘stuff on the web’

The ELPF have previously hosted meetings where the use of social media/the internet/online resources was discussed. We have also fed back on the social media policies at the City of Edinburgh Council and had contrasting input from the SSSC on the use of social media in our private lives (just a reminder – ramp up your privacy settings!). IRISS have produced an interesting article which provides supporting information for your business case when it comes to what you can access in the workplace, and it can be found here: http://www.iriss.org.uk/resources/accessdenied

Many thanks to David Orr who brought this to my attention!
