CEC and SDS

A short video explaining the new way of delivering social support in Edinburgh can now be viewed on the City of Edinburgh Council’s You Tube channel.

The lively two-minute animation spells out key information on Self-directed Support (SDS) – the new way for Scotland’s councils to help people of all ages to live independently at home and become more involved in the community.

You can view the Council SDS video here.  English language subtitles are in place to help people with impaired hearing.

SDS gives people much more choice and control about the way they are supported than ever before.

The new measures – which came into effect in April 2014 – have been described as the biggest change in local authority social care provision since the introduction of community care in the early 1990s.

If you are an adult and think you or an adult you know could benefit from Self-directed Support in Edinburgh, speak to your social care worker or call Social Care Direct  on 0131 200 2324 – or email socialcaredirect@edinburgh.gov.uk

Children and parents/carers should call  0131 200 2327 or  email cf.socialcaredirect@edinburgh.gov.uk

Local Event for Front Line Staff – Meet the Minister and the Chief Social Work Advisor to the Government (7 August 2014)

The Office of The Chief Social Work Adviser (OCSWA) in Scottish Government is setting up a regional event in Edinburgh for the Minister for Children and Young People and the Chief Social Work Adviser to engage directly with front line social service workers. The purpose of these events is to start establishing more direct engagement between Scottish Government, in particular OCSWA, and front line workers from across the diverse spectrum of social services which should help:

• inform and shape a broader programme of activity being undertaken by OCSWA in 2014-2015 to strengthen the role of social services
• to better demonstrate the sector’s significant contribution to delivering a wide range of national outcomes
• to support the sector through a significant change agenda (integration, SDS, Children’s Services Bill)
