Are you a newly qualified social worker?

The SSSC commissioned Glasgow Caledonian University and the University of Dundee  in 2016 to conduct a 5-year longitudinal study of newly-qualified social workers (NQSWs) in Scotland. Social Work Scotland have endorsed the study.

Review of Degree in Social Work

The Review of Social Work Education, led by the SSSC, has continued during 2015-2016 with broader engagement and involvement of the sector to help develop recommendations to improve the design and delivery of social work degree qualifying programmes.

There were three main work streams which focused on:

  • gathering additional evidence
  • developing a collective understanding of what shared professional learning will look like
  • exploring options and appraising models for resourcing a future social work degree programme.

SSSC Registration changes

The SSSC is changing the way they regulate and is reviewing the Codes of Practice. You can learn more here and also find the links to attend the focus groups which are being held around Scotland this summer.

SSSC Registration

The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) has been registering people who work in social services since 2003. There are now over 68,000 people in Scotland on the Register with another 50,000 expected to join before 2020. This is a really important aspect of the professionalism of our work.

You can share your views and experiences about registration by:

The SSSC is hosting four sessions in February 2015:

  • Tuesday 3 February 2015, Edinburgh: 10.00 to 12.00 and 14.00 to 16.00
  • Friday 6 February 2015, Glasgow: 10.00 to 12.00 and 14.00 to 16.00

I know we’ve only had one meeting so far this year but I was inspired by so many things at the Scottish Social Services Expo yesterday and wanted to share my thoughts on some potential events for 2015.

Workforce of the Future

The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) and IRISS are working together to develop new solutions to the challenges facing the social service sector’s workforce. We hope to have a presentation from the Workforce for the Future team at an ELPF meeting in the forseeable future however in the meantime check out the IRISS information here and/or sign up to the interactive platform.
